●2005/06/30 Differences Between RedHat 9 and Fedora 4

I expected there would be some differences — but trying it out revealed they’re actually quite significant.

●2005/06/30 The Differences Between RedHat 9 and Fedora 4

But it turns out they’re quite different, I found out after trying it myself.

●2005/06/30 Win 95

Installed Windows 95 in VMware on an AthlonXP 2800+ — and it ran smoothly. I actually never used 95 myself; my first PC was 98SE. A little nostalgia, a 5-minute install.

●2005/06/29 Engine: The Final Episode

Watched Engine’s final episode two days late, thanks to PC recording. Also submitted my highest-level English paper at seminar yet — now I really need to study English conversation.

●2005/06/28 Setting the Shift Schedule

July shift-setting day at the part-time job, where everyone sits down together to work out the schedule — which makes it the one day the whole team is in the same room.

●2005/06/28 Dead Tired

Overnight shift, and an impossible choice: pay for the expressway home or pay for dinner out. I picked a frozen karaage set near work. Home cooking really is best.

●2005/06/27 New User (Co-Managing the Site)

A new user signed up wanting to co-manage a site — a first for me. My notes on setting it up with useradd: -d for the shared home directory, -g for the shared group.

●2005/06/27 Even Though I Know It Won’t Be That Easy…

Currently at 27 points. Still can’t seem to win. I’ve been living the oolong tea life day after day, but that iPod mini just won’t come my way.

●2005/06/26 Earthquake Alerts

Apparently they do this on websites too. I was surprised. When an earthquake occurs, Yahoo’s ad space turns into an earthquake alert.

●2005/06/25 Early Morning and Car Wash

Up at 7 to drive my mom and sister to a new supermarket’s 9 o’clock opening — their dedication to crowds amazes me. So I washed the car, dried the futon, did laundry. 33°C in the rainy season?

●2005/06/24 Site Renewal☆

Done it. Right here. No complaints about it looking the same as the home server top page design, please.

●2005/06/24 Fedora 4

Tried Fedora 4 in VMware after Fedora 2 once wrecked my HDD and sent me back to Red Hat 9. A friend says recent versions are stable — maybe time to move my home server’s services over.

●2005/06/23 The Incredibles

Today I watched The Incredibles for the first time. I keep comparing it to Finding Nemo, but this one was a lot of fun too.

●2005/06/23 Auction

The pot just won’t sell… I put things up for auction every now and then, but this is the first time something has gone unsold and had to be relisted.

●2005/06/22 Oolong Tea, Still Going and Going

Currently at 24 points, and it just keeps going. Yep, I’m drinking it. Oolong tea. Let’s keep drinking oolong tea.

●2005/06/22 Displaying Server Uptime on the Top Page

Set up the home server’s top page to display its uptime, using a Perl CGI that parses the uptime command into days, hours, and minutes. Full script included.

●2005/06/22 More About Seminar Today

Putting together a paper on principal component analysis — summarizing correlated accelerometer frequency data into a few uncorrelated values. A snippet from the draft.

●2005/06/21 Oolong Tea Continues

Two more oolong teas, another missed penalty kick — now on my second lap around China at Shanghai. Also overfilled the tank at a self-serve station for the first time in two years.
