About two and a half years into living in Tokyo. I finally went to Kabukicho — Tokyo’s famous nightlife district.
A friend from university days works in Shinjuku and dragged me along.
Back in university I worked part-time in Nishiki-san (Nishiki 3-chome) — Nagoya’s nightlife area — so I thought I had some idea of what to expect. Not even close.
Big.
Big.
More people, completely different scale. Incredible. Just walking through made me want to shoot everything.
Another side of Tokyo I’d never seen.
There are a lot of venues, but they seem to have some kind of order to it all — I didn’t feel as unsafe as I expected.
The density of neon here might even surpass Ginza…
I ended up walking around with the wide-eyed look of a tourist.
