A Friend in the Hospital

« Previous Next »

Today, a message arrived from a friend I hadn’t heard from in a while:
“I’m in the hospital — come visit!”

I thought it was a joke at first, but it turned out to be real — so I jumped on the expressway and headed over immediately.
I’d assumed it was a traffic accident, but apparently it was a heart condition.

This person had always seemed perfectly healthy, so seeing the painful surgical scar on their chest was a shock.
It felt like something I couldn’t quite take in — like the reality wasn’t landing properly.

Realizing that any of the people around you — or yourself — might collapse without warning really drove home how valuable it is just to be healthy. That feeling hit hard.

This turned into a heavy post, but I’ll leave it here for now.
