The Fuji TV Announcer and the NEWS Member Incident

« Previous Next »

While reading through Yahoo message boards about this incident, I came across a page that was getting attention:

Kikko’s Diary

The post covers Kikuma-san’s background, Fuji TV’s internal dynamics, Fuji TV’s relationship with Waseda University… and much more.

Reading it, it flows smoothly and feels plausible. But what you have to keep in mind is that who wrote this is completely unknown.

It could all be fiction, or it could all be true. This is one of those times when browsing the internet shows you how unsettling it is not to know what’s real.

Whoever wrote this diary apparently:
· Has connections close enough to learn the details of a Sendai police investigation
· Has inside knowledge of Fuji TV’s internal workings
· Knows the exact layout of the izakaya where the incident occurred.

Does a person like that actually exist? That’s honestly my question.

At least half of it is probably fabricated.

That said, it’s clear from various angles that this whole situation involves overlapping events that have made for a complicated outcome.
Ketsumeishi appearing out of nowhere partway through, the story changing multiple times…
What’s also clear is that there are efforts to keep this from becoming a bigger story.

Underage drinking is not permitted by law.
But whether someone drinks “by their own choice” or “because an older coworker encouraged them” — it’s honestly something that happens in the real world all the time.

Entertainers and announcers, who are in a sense public representatives, shouldn’t be doing things like this.
They need more awareness of the fact that they’re always being watched.
