Part-Time Work at School

« Previous Next »

Today I worked as a conference assistant at school.
My background is in information science, but I was assigned to the electromagnetics track.

About half the presenters were from the same lab, so similar presentations just continued one after another.
The presentations assumed everyone knew the specialized terminology — it was completely over my head.

What I could gather was that the topic was something like “how do electromagnetic waves affect the human body.”
It’s surprisingly close to everyday life, actually.
Everyone uses a mobile phone, right?
There’s usually an “SAR” value listed on them somewhere.
Apparently that’s an index for how much radiation the phone emits that can affect the human body.

The current consensus seems to be that phones on the market now don’t cause harm, but it was still a slightly unsettling topic to hear about.
