I got Obon leave from August 14 to 18.
Usually I go between Tokyo and Nagoya by Shinkansen, but I decided to try taking local trains for a change.
And I’d already picked up a 2-ride Seishun 18 ticket at auction for ¥6,500 — so each trip comes out to ¥3,250.

I spent most of the train time watching the scenery and playing Nintendo DS, but conked out when we entered Aichi. Woke up refreshed and arrived in good shape.
If I wanted to get to Ichinomiya by 11 via Shinkansen, I’d need to leave Tokyo before 9. So in a way, I bought those 4 extra hours of travel time for the ¥6,000 price difference. Something like that.
All trains from Odawara onward were first departures of the day, so I had a seat the whole way. Less tiring than I expected.
For the return trip, planning to go via the Chuo Main Line through Shiojiri and Kofu to Takao. Something to look forward to.
