I pulled out the chorus lyrics from these two songs. Now listen to those sections back to back. Might already be well-known, but they really do sound alike.
A friend pointed it out to me and I immediately noticed it. First time since Orange Range’s “Ixin Denshin” sounding like the Dr. Mario BGM that I’ve had a “wait, is this a copy?” moment.
There’s a debate between “great melodies get reused” and “you can’t release a song that isn’t completely original” — so calling it plagiarism is a complicated question. But they do sound very similar. That much is certain.
