On my way to and from school I pass through a place in Nagoya called Kakuozan. An apartment building is currently under construction there.
However, a neighboring apartment building to the north (which looks relatively new, about 10 stories tall) is opposing the construction and has put up a lot of banners and flags.
I don’t know if they’re making the appeal because of the heavy traffic on the road in front, but every time I see those flags, I think the same thing — and I’m guessing others do too:
“Have the people in the opposing apartment building ever thought about the people living to their north?”
I understand why they’re protesting — a building of 10 or more stories is going up just to their south. But their own building is also 10 or more stories tall. So what about the people to their north?
Every time I see one of those protest banners, I can’t help but read it as a purely self-centered stance.
It just looks petty, and it’s not convincing.
