I travel frequently from Tokyo to Kobe for work, and every time I’m on the Shinkansen I think: I want to stop off in Kyoto and have a look around.
I’ve also been feeling a bit out of shape lately, so I set myself a theme:
Walk as much as possible!
True to that — day one: 32,881 steps. Roughly 20 km.
I did well.
Route on day one (everything without “train” is on foot):
Kyoto Station

A serious amount of walking. Absolutely.
Turns out you can cover a lot of ground in a single day.
I still have tomorrow morning before heading back, so I’ll keep going.
