The Headache of Moving to Tokyo

« Previous Next »

A personal update — on September 3rd, I transferred from Aichi to Tokyo.

Looking back, during university and job hunting I had a strong preference for staying in my home region, so getting transferred to Tokyo was genuinely unexpected.

It’s supposed to be a three-year assignment, but honestly I’m not sure what will happen.

There was one major problem with moving to Tokyo.

Disposing of my car. (This one ↓)

The monthly parking near the new apartment: ¥28,000.

Add the car loan and insurance, and the monthly cost of owning the car would exceed ¥60,000. Not happening.

Leaving it at the family home wasn’t realistic either — nobody in the family drives it. Pointless.

So I decided to sell it.

A black Toyota Corolla Allex Z manual transmission is actually a somewhat niche and desirable spec.

The kind of car that’s fun to drive without spending a fortune, and practical on top of it.

Probably for that reason, I got a surprisingly good offer of ¥680,000.

Paid off the remaining loan, arrived in Tokyo with a clean slate.

Next time: Tokyo streetscapes.
