Back Home for the First Time in a While

« Previous Next »

First time back in Nagoya since the Obon break — about two months.

Home really is relaxing. Plenty of people to talk to.
I also realized that when you’re apart from Nagoya friends for a while, the time you get when you finally meet is that much more concentrated.

Day one: met up with someone I used to work part-time with at a cafe.
The place has new ownership now and feels different, so we went to a nearby spot instead. Warmed up with a round of bowling.

Day two: the Nagoya Festival. Swung by my old part-time job in Sakae for a chat. Something I used to do nearly every day as a student — very nostalgic.
Also visited my niece. At just under a year and a half, she’s started walking!

Day three: clearing the backlog.
By “backlog” I mean the things that had been sitting pending at home while I was in Tokyo.

1. Dealing with the aftermath of a lightning outage — resetting every clock in the house. They’d been sitting wrong for a month.

2. Repairing the kitchen faucet. The lever handle had gotten extremely stiff — bought a replacement part at a home center and did the repair myself.

3. Swapping clothes between Tokyo and Nagoya. Brought summer clothes back from Tokyo, sent winter clothes to Tokyo. Ready for the cold now.

Dense, productive break — genuinely good.

Work in Nagoya tomorrow, then back to Tokyo.

Next visit planned for November. Might be able to come back more often for a while.

Though I also want to explore more of Tokyo. What I really need is just more time off. (Laughing.)
