During this year’s Golden Week, I took a trip from Tokyo to Nagoya, combining it with a visit back home, and did some touring on R152.
The main event was National Route 152, which runs from Lake Suwa in Nagano Prefecture towards Tenryu.
Route 152, you know, it’s interrupted midway.
I went on the touring trip with a slight sense of uneasiness. It seems that where the road is cut off, you have to take a forest road called “Jadō Rindō”. Here’s that spot.
It was fully paved, and easier to drive than I expected.
The Central Alps and Southern Alps are truly rugged. It was a route I’d love to ride again. When traveling between Nagoya and Tokyo, you either go north through Okayama or along the coast from Hamamatsu, and since there are no tunnels, it must be difficult to build one even if they wanted to.
It’s really great to pass through these mountains! Even in the middle of Golden Week, it was uncrowded and felt wonderful.
