I fully expected it to be fanless, but to my surprise, when I powered it on, the fan roared to life with a “whoosh.”
Well, given the nature of the product, it’s not meant for home use, so they clearly didn’t consider noise reduction at all. For now, I decided to open it up to see what kind of fan it had and to clean out any dust.
Inside, there was a single 4cm fan. It was positioned to blow air from top to bottom within the case, but it was a mystery why it didn’t blow air directly outwards. That would surely be more effective.
But for me, someone aiming for silent operation, this fan was a nuisance. Taking full responsibility, I unplugged the fan’s power cable!
And of course, when I powered it on again, there was no sound. (Naturally)
This hub has a metal casing, so I figured it would dissipate some heat naturally. Plus, I propped it up, so I’m currently running it with the hope that it will manage to dissipate heat through natural convection.
I’m checking it every few hours and hoping it stabilizes at a reasonable temperature… For now, it seems to be stable at around 45 degrees Celsius.
However, this hub’s performance is excellent, so I really want to keep using it if possible.
