I went to Summer Sonic!
The order I saw them:
- TRICERATOPS on ISLAND Stage
- MUTEMATH on MARINE Stage
- Elephant Kashimashi on MARINE Stage
- MONGOL800 on BEACH Stage
- Unicorn on MARINE Stage
- NE-YO on MARINE Stage
- BEYONCÉ on MARINE Stage
After MONGOL800 I wanted to see Kimaguren, but a sudden thunderstorm forced everyone to shelter in the MARINE Stage. Managed to stay dry.
For a first festival, I navigated it pretty well — a full and satisfying day without getting lost.
The last act, Beyoncé, was less of a live show and more of a full production. The aura, the presence — completely different from any other artist. Just overwhelming.
At MONGOL800 I stayed mid-crowd — far enough back from the moshing and diving up front to actually feel the vibe without getting caught in it. That worked out well.
The performances were great. But also — the food was surprisingly good for a festival setting. The loco moco at lunch, for one.
Hope I can come back next year. As long as I’m in the Greater Tokyo Area, it’s easy enough to make the trip.
